The Motion Picture Association, which represents major film studios and streaming platforms, has issued a cease-and-desist letter to Meta, demanding it stop using the PG-13 rating in Instagram’s teen safety policy. The MPA said Meta’s claim that teen accounts are “guided by” the rating is “literally false and highly misleading.” According to the letter, Meta never sought approval before referencing the rating, which is a registered certification mark. The MPA argued Instagram’s automated systems differ from its curated movie rating process and could damage public trust in the system. Meta said it aimed to help parents by aligning policies with a familiar standard and hopes to work with the MPA. (Story URL)
