The Kennedy Center board has unanimously voted to rename the Washington D.C. performing arts venue the “Trump-Kennedy Center,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Thursday. She said the board made the decision “because of the unbelievable work President Trump has done over the last year in saving the building.” Trump told reporters: “I was honored by it. We’re saving the building. We saved the building.” The facility opened in 1971 as a living memorial to President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1963. Trump recently made himself chairman and installed a hand-picked conservative board after removing what he called “woke” leaders. Kennedy’s grandson Jack Schlossberg has argued that the renaming violates federal law prohibiting additional memorials in the center’s public areas. (Story URL)
