It’s World Emoji Day . . . And Nine New Emojis Are on the Way

Friday was World Emoji Day, when everyone around the globe celebrated the colorful images we slap onto text messages . . . trying to convince people we aren’t mad.

To celebrate, there’s a report of NINE new emojis on the way. They are:

1. A Cracked Smiling Face. Because sometimes, “I’m fine!” means “I’m very much not fine!”
2. A Net with a Handle. It represents the process of catching or pulling something out of the digital ether. Maybe you’re catching a vibe, or collecting something? Pokémon-style, maybe?
3. A Monarch Butterfly. If you want something more literal to “catch.”
4. A Meteor. Similar to the comet, but more FIRE.
5. A Pickle. Similar to the cucumber . . . but now with an associated BOOMER SPORT. It would also be nice for situations when you’re “in a pickle.”
6. A Lighthouse. It’s . . . well, a lighthouse. Maybe it could be a beacon of “guiding light.” But this isn’t one most people will be DYING TO USE.
7. An Eraser. It’s just a pink rectangular eraser. Maybe for a situation where you’d like to “erase” a dumb text you sent last night at 2:00 A.M.
8. The last two are a Leftwards and Rightwards Thumb Sign. Which can suggest, “Look at this guy.”

According to the internet, they won’t begin popping up until early NEXT year. You can see the images of all of them, here.
