Ever dream about that one luxury item you’ve always wanted, only to realize it’s not all it’s cracked up to be?
A Reddit user asked people a simple question: “What luxury did you stop wanting after you finally experienced it?” The answers poured in, and many of them had the same theme. A lot of upgrades are just too expensive, and many come with hidden costs, and fail to live up to the hype.
Here are some of the best examples:
1. Hot tubs: They’re fun at first, but way too expensive to upkeep. Plus, they often go unused most of the year.
2. First-class flights: A bunch of people are saying that the upgrade isn’t worth the massive cost.
3. Bottle service at clubs: Thousands of dollars for an underwhelming experience. No thanks.
4. Designer clothing and handbags: Apparently, the excitement fades quickly after the purchase.
5. Owning a boat: Boats are money-holes. And most of the time they’re a lot more hassle than they’re worth.
6. Going to a pro sporting event: Way too expensive . . . and usually you’ll get better seats at home.
7. Michelin-star restaurants: Good food, but not always worth the enormous bill.
8. VIP sections at music festivals: One person described them as nothing more than fenced-off seating areas.
9. In-ground swimming pools: They have the same complaints as hot tubs. It’s a lot of maintenance for something that’s used occasionally.
10. Fame: The constant scrutiny and pressure make it way less appealing.
