The Next “Little Free Libraries” Are Mini-Blockbusters . . . for DVDs

You know those “little free libraries” that pop up in suburban neighborhoods? They seem like they are supposed to be filled with kids’ books to inspire young readers . . . but are often filled with “The Da Vinci Code”, something by John Grisham or Stephen King, and random Harlequin books?

Well, THIS is a fascinating new spin on that:

There are “Free Blockbusters” popping up . . . complete with a blue and yellow design . . . that are meant to hold physical media to share, like VHS, DVDs, and Blu-rays.

The first one was made a few years ago by a former Blockbuster employee and VHS collector living in California . . . and was just an old “L.A. Times” newspaper dispenser that was painted with Blockbuster logos and art.

Now there are dozens of them across the U.S. . . . and there’s even a website where you can start your own.

It costs $420 for them to send you a pre-painted newspaper dispenser. Those aren’t necessary, though. You can make your own . . . out of anything you want. And the website has stencils to help you out.

If you do end up opening your own “Free Blockbuster” location, let them know, and they will add its address onto their shared map.

For the record: The website says that Blockbuster LLC seems cool with them “renting” their likeness for these free libraries.
