Now that your body’s circadian rhythm has been completely destroyed by clock-changing and Halloween candy, this could be your reset:
According to a recent Apple Heart & Movement Study, the average American sleep start time is 11:37 P.M. That’s when people actually fall asleep, not when they get in bed . . . or when they put down their phones.
The average DURATION of sleep is 6 hours and 40 minutes.
There’s also data on how that breaks down by state.
Hawaii had the EARLIEST average sleep start time at 11:06 P.M., followed by New Mexico . . . Arizona . . . Maine . . . Wyoming . . . New Hampshire . . . Colorado . . . Rhode Island . . . Wisconsin . . . and Montana.
Washington, D.C. had the LATEST at 11:56 P.M., followed by New York . . . Puerto Rico. . . Kentucky . . . Georgia . . . Ohio . . . Utah . . . New Jersey . . . Indiana . . . Michigan . . . and North Dakota.
They also had a breakdown of the average sleep duration by state, but EVERY state fell between six-and-a-half hours and seven. Except Puerto Rico, where the average was slightly lower at 6.4 hours.
One last note: The people with the “most consistent bedtimes” slept around 40 minutes longer . . . and spent less time awake during recorded sleep periods.
