It’s no secret that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt had a rough split. Now, she’s opening up to Vogue about why she decided to leave him. As many will recall, Jolie filed for divorce shortly after Pitt reportedly yelled at and grabbed their eldest son; Child Services investigated, but he was never charged with anything.
She told Vogue: “I separated for the well-being of my family. It was the right decision. I continue to focus on their healing. Some have taken advantage of my silence, and the children see lies about themselves in the media, but I remind them that they know their own truth and their own minds.”
The pair share Maddox, 18, Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 12, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 11. She went on to call them “six very brave, very strong young people.”
She adopted her three eldest children, and gave birth to the youngest three. The humanitarian called both “a beautiful way of becoming a family. What is important is to speak with openness about all of it and to share.”
Jolie continued: “‘Adoption’ and ‘orphanage’ are positive words in our home. With my adopted children, I can’t speak of pregnancy, but I speak with much detail and love about the journey to find them and what it was like to look in their eyes for the first time.”
After a reportedly rough few years, Pitt and Jolie are coparenting in peace, and she is reportedly relieved and impressed that Pitt has stopped drinking.
