The New York State Supreme Court has denied Mary-Kate Olsen’s emergency bid for divorce from her husband of five years, Olivier Sarkozy. The reason? A spokesperson told CNN that her divorce filing is not considered “essential” due to the coronavirus.
"Only essential/emergency matters are allowed to be filed," said Lucian Chalfen of the New York Supreme Court. "The original filing was rejected by the New York County (Manhattan) clerk because they did not follow the essential matter procedure. They refiled under the essential matter procedure, and the matter was referred to an ex parte State Supreme Court Judge. He just decided that it is not essential, so they can't file anything at this point."
Mary-Kate, 33, is reportedly quarantining with friends in the Hamptons. Olivier, 50, is the half-brother of Nicolas Sarkozy, the former President of France. Previous reports claimed that Olivier kicked Mary-Kate out of their apartment (in the middle of the pandemic), and she filed the emergency divorce in order to gain extra time to grab her stuff.
Meanwhile, Mary-Kate’s twin Ashley is holding down the pair’s fashion empire, comprised of luxury brand The Row and the more casual Elizabeth and James.
