Comedian Arj Barker defended his decision to remove a breastfeeding mother and her baby from his Melbourne show, clarifying that his actions were solely based on audio disruption. “If a noise or movement distracts people mid-joke, the payoff can be greatly diminished,” Barker explained. He made the decision to remove the mother with around 50 minutes of the show left and offered her a refund as a gesture of goodwill. Barker emphasizes that the decision was made on behalf of the other audience members who deserved an uninterrupted show. He further notes that the theater should have flagged the age restriction of the show beforehand. Barker confirms that his actions were not about breastfeeding, stating, “This was ALL to do with AUDIO disruption of my show, nothing more. For the record, I support public breastfeeding, as it’s perfectly natural.”
