CANNES REVEALS MORE INCLUSIVE LINEUP: The Cannes Film Festival has been criticized for failing to feature enough female directors, and this year, four women will have their work in competition: Atlantique by Mati Diop, Little Joe by Jessica Hausner, Sibyl by Justine Triet, and Portrait of a Lady on Fire by Céline Sciamma. It’s the best showing since 2011, Variety reports, and represents 21% of the 19 competition entries thus far (up from 14% in 2018). All told, 13 female directors are represented in the 47-film official selection unveiled Thursday by Cannes’ director, Thierry Fremaux.

NETFLIX DROPS TUCA & BERTIE TRAILER: Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming animated series Tuca & Bertie. Created by BoJack Horseman’s producer Lisa Hanawalt, it follows to 30-year-old birds who live in the same apartment and are BFFs. Tiffany Haddish voices Tuca, and Ali Wong plays Bertie. The show drops Friday, May 3rd.

CHUCKY SPEAKS: “Good night, Andy,” says the psychotic doll Chucky in the new trailer for Orion’s Child’s Play. Mark Hamill voices the doll. In this second trailer, we see more of Chucky’s games, including a sudden death via Christmas lights. Hamill and Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman, and Brian Tyree Henry star in what’s been described as a “contemporary re-imagining” of the 1988 horror hit. Child’s Play lands June 21st.
