SHIA LABEOUF AND MEL GIBSON TO STAR IN ROTHCHILD: Rothchild has signed Mel Gibson and Shia LaBeouf on to star, with Jon S. Baird directing the action. The film, a black comedy, will follow Becket Rothchild (LaBeouf), whose mother eloped with a jazz musician, and whose family has disinherited them. Once he grows up, he becomes determined to win his way back into the vast fortune the Rothchild family possesses, and hijinks ensue. 

AMAZON SNAGS RIGHTS TO STAR TREK: Amazon Prime Video has snagged the global rights to the forthcoming untitled Star Trek Jean-Luc Picard series. Sir Patrick Stewart is starring in the show. The deal was struck by CBS Studios as CBS All Access’ original Star Trek spin-off airs on Amazon’s rival Netflix. 

SAMUEL GOLDWYN FILMS NABS JUDY & PUNCH: First time director Mirrah Foulkes’ revenge comedy from Vice Studios got a gleeful reception at Sundance, and now Samuel Goldwyn Films has nabbed the rights. Alice in Wonderland star Mia Wasikowska and Damon Herriman topline Vice Studio's first Australian feature film, which is a live-action remake of the classic puppet show of the same name. 

LORNE MICHAELS TO RECEIVE CANNES’ PERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD: Lorne Michaels, the creator and exec producer of Saturday Night Live, will be honored with Cannes Lions’ first Entertainment Person of the Year award. Michaels is a 16-time Emmy winner.“We’re delighted to present this very special award to Lorne Michaels,” Philip Thomas, chairman of Cannes Lions, said in a statement. “An esteemed industry legend, he is an individual who perfectly illustrates the impact of great storytelling and culture, which can support the marketing and communications industry to strive for creative excellence and engage and inspire audiences across the world.” Cannes is set to run June 17-21. 

THE MASKED SINGER RENEWED: Fox confirmed that it has renewed The Masked Singer for a third season. The first show will bow after the Super Bowl on February 2nd.
