JONAH HAUER-KING SNAGGED TO STAR IN THE LITTLE MERMAID: Jonah Hauer-King has landed the role of Prince Eric in Disney‘s live-action remake of the Disney classic The Little Mermaid. Halle Bailey has been cast as Ariel, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula and Javier Bardem as King Triton. Jacob Tremblay, meanwhile, will voice Flounder, while Awkwafina will voice Scuttle and Daveed Diggs will voice Sebastian. Rob Marshall has signed on to direct.
DISNEY+ APP DOWNLOADED 3.2M TIMES: The Disney+ app was downloaded 3.2 million times, in the first 24 hours after its November 12th launch, according to Apptopia. In comparison, Netflix’s app was downloaded 662,000 times globally.
NICKELODEON AND NETFLIX INK NEW DEAL: Netflix and Nickelodeon have formed a new multi-year deal to produce original animated features and TV series. “Nickelodeon has generated scores of characters that kids love, and we look forward to telling wholly original stories that re-imagine and expand on the worlds they inhabit,” said Netflix vice president of original animation Melissa Cobb. “We’re thrilled to continue collaborating with Brian Robbins, Ramsey Naito, and the creative team at Nickelodeon in new ways as we look to find fresh voices and bring bold stories to our global audience on Netflix.”
KEELEY HAWES TO PLAY PATRICIA NEAL: Keeley Hawes will star opposite Hugh Bonneville in a biopic about the Oscar-winner Patricia Neal and her husband, the famed author Roald Dahl. The film, formerly called An Unquiet Life, is based on Stephen Michael Shearer‘s book of the same name. Neal, who died in 2010, starred in The Day the Earth Stood Still and Breakfast at Tiffany’s before winning an Oscar for 1963’s Hud.
