The iconic writer and director John Singleton’s private funeral is set for today (Monday), according to reports. The Boyz N the Hood and Higher Learning director died at age 51 last week after suffering a massive stroke and being taken off of life support.
The funeral is planned “a very small, intimate goodbye for family and very close friends,” EW reports. The ceremony will not be open to the public.
However, his family is planning a larger memorial in the coming weeks, a rep tells EW. This week, Tribeca Film Festival organizers added a free screening of Boys N the Hood on Friday, May 3rd.
“John Singleton accomplished what all creators strive to do. He entertained but also inspired generations of audiences and artists,” organizers wrote in a statement.
He will also remain credited as exec producer of FX’s Snowfall, TMZ reports. Production on season 3 is almost finished.
