Disney will re-release the original 1977 version of Star Wars: A New Hope in theaters on February 19th, 2027, celebrating the film’s 50th anniversary. The newly-restored theatrical release will feature the original cut, not the 1997 Special Edition that featured significant changes made by George Lucas, including CGI additions and the controversial scene where Greedo shoots first at Han Solo. In 2004, Lucas told The Associated Press: “The Special Edition, that’s the one I wanted out there. The other movie, it’s on VHS, if anybody wants it.” He added: “It’s like this is the movie I wanted it to be, and I’m sorry you saw a half-completed film and fell in love with it.” Nonetheless, many fans disagreed and have been waiting decades for the original edition to return. The re-release comes one month before Star Wars: Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosling, arrives in theaters on March 28th, 2027. (Story URL)
