Oscars Moving To YouTube In 2029, Will Stream Free Globally

YouTube secured exclusive worldwide rights to broadcast the Oscars starting in 2029 through 2033, marking a major shift from traditional television. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the multi-year partnership will begin with the 101st ceremony in 2029. ABC retains broadcast rights through 2028. The ceremony will stream free globally on YouTube, including red carpet coverage and behind-the-scenes content. “We are thrilled to enter into a multifaceted global partnership with YouTube to be the future home of the Oscars,” said the Academy. Sources indicate YouTube paid over nine figures for the rights, surpassing offers from Disney/ABC and NBCUniversal.
