New Mexico special prosecutor Kari Morrissey wants a judge to reconsider dismissing the involuntary manslaughter charge against Alec Baldwin for the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie Rust. Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer dropped the case in July due to some bullet evidence that was withheld from the defense, saying Morrissey’s team was guilty of “egregious discovery violations constituting misconduct.” But Morrissey writes in her new motion that the whole thing was a “smoke screen created by the defense and was intended to sway and confuse the court … and it was successful.” The prosecutor, who has been widely-criticized for having a political grudge against Baldwin, refuted claims of evidence suppression and insists the defense was aware of the ammunition’s existence. Baldwin’s lawyer plans to respond to the reconsideration request. (AP)
