Eight Health Myths That People Still Believe

SHARE NOW

A post is going viral again on Reddit because it asked healthcare professionals to share the health myths that people still believe.

And let’s just be thankful there are qualified doctors and nurses out there to set us all straight. Some of the worst offenders are:

1. “Blood is blue in your veins until it’s exposed to air.” Nope, it’s red 100% of the time.
2. “Carrots improve your eyesight.” This was made up by the British Royal Air Force in WWII to cover up the fact they invented airplane radar.
3. “You can get a cold from being too cold.”
4. When a bad guy on a TV show “pulls the plug” on someone in the hospital and they die. Apparently, those machines are battery operated.
5. “The wedding ring is worn on the fourth finger of your left hand because that vein is connected to the heart.” Every finger has a vein, and they’re all connected to your heart.
6. “Cracking your knuckles gives you arthritis.”
7. “Sit-ups and crunches target stomach fat.” No, that’s what liposuction does.
8. “You need to drink eight glasses of water a day to stay hydrated.” There is no set amount, and it’s different for everyone.
