Remember the criminal who pooped diamonds?
Last year, a 32-year-old thief from Texas named Jaythan Gilder stole $770,000 worth of diamond earrings from Tiffany’s in Florida. When the police caught him, he SWALLOWED the two sets of earrings.
That didn’t fool anyone, but Jaythan wasn’t sure. He asked cops, quote, “Am I going to be charged with what’s in my stomach?” He even regretted it . . . adding, “I should have thrown them out the window.”
Jaythan may not seem like the sharpest mastermind . . . but he thinks he can handle LAWYERING. He just rejected a plea deal and has decided to represent himself at trial, which is scheduled for next month.
It’s unclear what kind of a defense he’ll mount, since the evidence against him SMELLS TO HIGH HEAVEN.
Jaythan did “pass” the two sets of earrings from Tiffany’s while in custody . . . PLUS some unexpected mystery earrings NOT from the Tiffany’s haul. They haven’t said what that’s all about.
He has been locked up without bond since his arrest. And he has a LONG rap-sheet that includes convictions for resisting arrest, assault, narcotics possession, and multiple jewelry thefts.
He could be looking at up to 30 years for robbery (with a 15-year mandatory minimum) and up to life for grand theft (with a 30-year mandatory minimum).
