If I asked you which state everyone moves to when they’re looking for a place to grow old, let themselves go, and maybe run afoul with the law . . . chances are we’d all be thinking of the same one.
There’s a new ranking of the best states for growing old . . . and surprisingly, Arizona is not #1.
The ranking is based on things like: The number of residents 75 and older, hospital beds, life expectancy, the availability of nurses, nursing homes, the cost of nursing care, air quality index, sunlight exposure, and walkability.
Here’s the Top 15:
1. Hawaii
2. Florida
3. New Jersey
4. Massachusetts
5. New York
6. Virginia
7. Rhode Island
8. Nebraska
9. Oregon
10. Washington
11. Montana
12. Idaho
13. Connecticut
14. Utah
15. Minnesota
Arizona came in at #23
Mississippi was deemed the worst state for aging. According to the report, “Mississippians lead the second shortest lives at 72.6 years . . . live in the least walkable state . . . and have low-rated nursing homes.”
The rest of bottom five are: Oklahoma, New Mexico, Georgia, and Michigan.
