The States Where People Have the Highest and Lowest Income

Sometimes you can boost your salary by switching jobs. And sometimes you can boost your salary just by crossing state lines.

A new study looked into the states where people have the highest and lowest incomes. To do it, they gave each state a score based on average salaries of the top 5% earners . . . the average of the bottom 20% earners . . . and the median household income overall.

In the end, the Top Five are: Virginia . . . New York . . . New Jersey . . . Washington . . . and Connecticut.

The rest of the Top 10 are: Colorado . . . Minnesota . . . Illinois . . . and Massachusetts. As for the other big states: Texas is #11, California is #13, and Florida is #15.

Arizona came in at a respectable #18.

On the flip-side, the states with the lowest income are West Virginia . . . New Mexico . . . Mississippi . . . Louisiana . . . Maine . . . Rhode Island . . . Alabama . . . Vermont . . . Kentucky . . . and Alaska.
