What Is a “Say No” Retreat?

Forget the spa. Your next day of relaxation might involve sitting at home and canceling a bunch of stuff.

Officially, it’s called a “say no” retreat. And here’s what it looks like: You dedicate an entire day to looking at the next few weeks and months and asking yourself: “What am I doing that I don’t actually need to do?”

You can start by making a list. Look at your calendar and consider all your future appointments, social plans, trips, and other commitments you may be dreading.

Then comes the fun part: Start saying no.

You don’t have to cancel everything. Start with an easy one. The point is to stop automatically agreeing to things because you feel obligated . . . or don’t want to seem difficult or have FOMO.
