In his first interview ever, Jacob Blake opened up about being shot seven times by a Kenosha police officer last summer — and the DA's decision to not file any charges in the case. In an interview with Michael Strahan on Good Morning America, Blake recalled the moment he was shot by Officer Rusten Sheskey in the back. In a viral video, Blake was seen walking away from the officer and into his car, where his three children were.
Blake said that he remembered thinking, “My babies are right here. My babies. So after he stops shooting me, I said, ‘Daddy love you, no matter what."” He continued, “I thought it was gonna be the last thing I would say to them. Thank God it wasn’t.”
Blake said that after being shot, he remembered counting his breaths and blinks. He explained, “I was like, ‘God, I’m coming.’ I guess this is it for me. … I didn’t wanna be the next George Floyd; I didn’t wanna die.”
