Mariah Carey openly criticized the Grammys during a new Pitchfork Over/Under interview. The 56-year-old pop superstar proclaimed that both the music award show and the trophy itself are “overrated,” despite having won five Grammys and earning 34 nominations over her 35-year career. Carey eventually added, “But we love everybody,” to avoid any controversy with the Recording Academy of the United States. This wasn’t the only time that Carey has thrown some shade at the Grammys, as she humorously noted that she hadn’t seen a “real Grammy” in a long time after receiving the Recording Academy’s Global Impact Award during the 2024 ceremony. “It’s weird,” she said onstage at the time. “I don’t know. We’ll figure out what this is later.” Carey’s new album, Here For It All, is scheduled to be released on September 26, which includes the singles “Type Dangerous” and “Sugar Sweet.” (Complex)
