Rapper NoName was dragged this past weekend after she decided to give some criticism about Beyonce's Black Is King film. The rapper tweeted about the film, “we love an african aesthetic draped in capitalism. hope we remember the blk folks on the continent whose daily lives are impacted by u.s imperialism. if we can uplift the imagery i hope we can uplift those who will never be able to access it. black liberation is a global struggle."
NoName later retweeted news about Zimbabwean author Tsitsi Dangarembga, who was arrested after she participated in the country’s protests due to alleged government corruption and an increasing economic crisis with inflation running at 700%.
She also retweeted a fan's tweet, who detailed some of the struggles that's going on with civilians in Zimbabwe. She said, “sis, they’re killing us in Zimbabwe. literally. the world is turning a blind eye to the blatant human rights abuses we’re facing every single day. our black lives clearly don’t matter."
SOCIAL MEDIA REACTS
Of course, people had something to say about NoName's criticism of Beyonce. One person tweeted, "Noname really thinks Beyoncé shouldn’t use African “aesthetics” because she hasn’t liberated the entire Nation from poverty…………no words. That girl is stupid. Nobrain." Another wrote, "As an African living in Africa I assure you Beyonce's dedication to collaborating with our talented creatives to come up with beautiful uplifting art is doing more for us than anything you have done."
Another person tweeted, "So Noname is really asking Beyoncé to do what the elected officials in Africa are supposed to be doing."
