JOE BIDEN UNVEILS 'LIFT EVERY VOICE' PLAN GEARED TOWARDS BLACK AMERICA
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has unveiled his “Lift Every Voice” plan towards Black America. The plan addresses issues like gun violence and criminal reform. Biden would also like to set funds aside to help Black people who have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19. He would also like to help black owned businesses by supplying more funds.
FOOTAGE RELEASED OF FATAL SHOOTING OF AHMAUD ARBERY
Footage of a white man shooting and killing unarmed black man, 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery has been released. On February 23rd, Arbery was out jogging when he was chased and killed by a white man named Travis McMichael in Georgia. Travis, the song of a former district attorney investigator, has not been arrested or charged. According to TMZ, Travis and his father have claimed that they were trying to make a citizens's arrest and Ahmaud fit the description of a suspect in a string recent break ins in the area.
After the emergence of the video, D.A. Pro Tempore Tom Durden has decided the case “should be presented to the grand jury of Glynn County for consideration of criminal charges against those involved in the death of Mr. Arbery.”
Meanwhile, Ahmaud’s family says the use of deadly force was unnecessary.
FOOTAGE OF LAPD VIOLENT ARREST SURFACES ONLINE
A video of a Los Angeles policce office repeatedly punching and hitting a man in the head has surfaced online. TMZ posted footage of the violent arrest — which occured last month in the Boyle Heights section in LA. As the officer was arresting the man, you see him punch the back of the man's head at least 9 times while cursing. At one point, the man asks, “What is wrong with you?”
Eventually, the officer's partner put her hand on her partner's arm and he stopped. In a statement, LAPD said that the officers were responding to a trespassing call. The LAPD added that they are aware of the “disturbing video” capturing the incident, which it describes as a “physical altercation” between the suspect and arresting officer. Cops say the suspect suffered cuts to his head and face, but refused medical attention, while the male officer sustained a hand injury.
Cops say the man was released from custody pending further investigation.
